Update following safety cordon on Watts Road, Beverley |
||
Please be aware a safety cordon remains in place on Watts Road in Beverley following reports of suspected explosive materials being found in a property earlier today (Friday, 29 August). Chief Superintendent Simon Vickers said: “A scene guard remains in place along with a precautionary 100m cordon around the immediate area of Watts Road for evidential purposes, and to allow emergency services to continue to safely conduct ongoing enquiries. “We’re working closely with East Riding Council, and local residents have been evacuated to a safe location whilst specialist search officers remain on scene. “We urge the local community to avoid the area until officers have deemed it safe, and if you have any concerns or questions, please speak to the officers who are in and around the area at this time to offer reassurance. “The items discovered were a cause for concern and has to be examined by specialists to ensure it is appropriately handled and dealt with, so not to cause any risk or threat to the public. “I want to thank all our residents and those in the local area for their continued patience, assistance and understanding, as we have to take all reports of this nature seriously and all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our communities.” Two men remain in police custody in connection with the incident at this time.
